The Friends of the University of Nevada, Reno Library invite the community to celebrate the ultimate classroom--where imagination and diversity meet

The public is invited to indulge in creativity and nostalgia by bidding on pieces of campus history to benefit the new Knowledge Center. Over 60 artists and community leaders have adopted vintage oak study chairs, retired from campus lecture rooms, to create unique objects for auction. The results promise to run the gamut of elegant to outrageous, classic to avant-garde. The Sunday, July 10th event will take place at McKinley Park School 4 -7 as part of Artown 2005. Food and wine will be available for purchase. Music for the afternoon will be provided by jazz musician Hans Halt, and Mark Eastman will serve as auctioneer. Admission is free.

Proceeds from the auction will go to the building fund for the Mathewson-IGT Knowledge Center on the University of Nevada, Reno campus. The 295,000 square foot facility will meld the functions of a traditional library with campus information technology and community oriented spaces. With its 200-seat auditorium, gracious reading rooms, art galleries, and exhibit halls, the facility will serve as the physical, intellectual, and cultural center of the University. Ground-breaking is anticipated in early 2006.
